Three Pakistani soldiers were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Aravalli district of Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, the media wing of the army said in a press release.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani forces fought bravely and effectively repelled terrorist positions in the Arawal area of the region.
During a violent firefight, two terrorists were killed and their weapons and ammunition were recovered. The ISPR added that the terrorists killed are still actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces.
Khairpur Subedar Shuja Muhammad, 43, Khuzdar Naik Muhammad Ramzan, 32, and Sukkur Sepoy Abdul Rehman, 30, said they were martyred in the shooting, according to the military’s media arm.
According to him, operations are underway to clear the area to eliminate the terrorists found in the area. “The Pakistan Army is determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices by our brave soldiers only strengthens our resolve,” ISPR added.
The incident comes amid a surge in terror attacks in the country. Where the largely outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) unilaterally ended a ceasefire in November. Effectively ending a start-stop negotiation process brokered by the Afghan Taliban.
Totally defeated in a decisive kinetic operation by the military, the TTP has found a safe haven on the border of Afghanistan, where it controls terror operations in Pakistan.
Islamabad called these TTP shrines a “red line” and urged Kabul’s new rulers to take action against them. As Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said during a recent visit to the US that “all options are on the table” to counter the TTP’s resurgence. Experts say Pakistan’s patience is due to Kabul’s reluctance to act against the TTP’s core.
Unofficial data shows a 51 percent increase in terrorist violence between August 15, 2021, and August 14, 2022, nearly a year after the Taliban took control of Kabul. During this period, at least 433 people were killed and 719 injured in 250 attacks in Pakistan.
A day earlier, the country’s top military commanders promised to “fight terrorists without distinction.” Reiteration of the decision was made in a group of army chiefs at the headquarters headed by Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir.
“A comprehensive review of the professional and organizational affairs of the military has been undertaken. It has been decided to deal with terrorists without distinction. And eliminate this menace as per the wishes of the people of Pakistan,” ISPR said.
